The Star Wars Legacy Lives On!
When George Lucas released the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, back in 1977 (technically it came out in 1978 in Ireland), no one could have predicted that this Western movie set in space could have become the hit phenomenon that it remains today, more than 40 years after its initial release.
The success of Star Wars extended far beyond simply selling a lot of movie tickets at the box office. While Hollywood always had its blockbusters, from Gone with the Wind to Jaws, A New Hope was the first film to really cash in on the merchandise element of things. Before Star Wars, it was practically unheard of for a movie to spawn a hugely successful action figure line, but that is exactly what happened, with Star Wars toys remaining hugely popular to this day.
A Whole Galaxy of Merchandise!
Of course, the Star Wars merchandise machine was not happy to settle with dominating cinemas and cornering the toy market. It has gotten to the point where if you can imagine something, then there is bound to be a version of it with Darth Vader on it. If you want galactic bedroom furniture or cool sci-fi clothes for kids, Very Ireland have the merch you're looking for...
As if all of that that wasn't enough to keep fans happy, there is now an absolutely gigantic selection of Star Wars LEGO and video games available on Very Ireland, so you will be able to create new sci-fi adventures of your own long after you have worn out your DVD copies of the movies.
The Last Jedi Is Here!
More than 40 years after A New Hope introduced us to the wonders of a galaxy far, far away, the franchise is even bigger and stronger than ever, with The Force Awakens introducing fans to a new generation of sci-fi heroes such as Rey and Finn and The Last Jedi continuing the story and plenty more to come!
